Comments and forum posts
When you submit a comment or forum post we collect a nickname and an email address. The nickname is whatever name you choose to display, it does not need to be your real name. The email address is used to verify that the comment is genuine and to reduce spam. Nicknames appear publicly next to your comment. Email addresses are stored securely, are never displayed publicly, and are not used for marketing or passed to any third parties. We do not ask for or store your full name, address or phone number.
Contact form
If you use the contact form we receive the message you submit along with your name and email. We only use these details to reply to you. We do not share them with anyone else.
Interactive tools and calculators
Some pages on this site include interactive tools, calculators, diaries and letter builders. Information you type into these tools is processed only to produce a result. Where a tool keeps a history (for example a noise diary, a contact diary or a saved letter), that history is stored in your own browser using local storage on your device. It is not uploaded to our servers and we cannot read it. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser storage or using the tool's own clear option.
Tools that write a response for you send the text you submit to our technology provider, Anthropic, so it can generate the answer. We keep a record of each use to check quality and prevent misuse, with names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses removed. Please do not type in personal details that the tool does not need.
Requests to be put in touch with a professional
On some of our websites you can ask to be put in touch with a solicitor, mediator or similar professional. If you use that form we collect your name and email address, and any phone number, area and description of your situation that you choose to give. We only collect these details if you tick the box to agree.
We use your details to try to match you with someone who can help. With your agreement we may pass them to one professional firm or mediation service so that they can contact you about your situation. We do not pass them to anyone else and we do not use them for marketing. We cannot promise that everyone will be matched.
We rely on your consent to do this, and you can withdraw it at any time by contacting us. We keep these details for up to six months and then delete them, or sooner if you ask us to.
